The purpose of the Medical Terminology course is to provide an introduction to the professional language used by those who are directly and indirectly involved with the art of healing. The program will also introduce those not currently involved in the health care environment with an introduction to the language of medicine. In addition, the course will provide participants with the basics of human anatomy and physiology.

Course Content

The Medical Terminology Program consists of 15 chapters. The outline for the course material is as follows:
Chapter 1: Medical Terminology Introduction
Chapter 2: Body Structures
Chapter 3: Word Parts
Chapter 4: Integumentary System
Chapter 5: The Breast
Chapter 6: Musculoskeletal System
Chapter 7: Nervous System
Chapter 8: The Sensory System
Chapter 9: Cardiovascular System
Chapter 10: Lymphatic and Immune System
Chapter 11: Respiratory System
Chapter 12: Digestive System
Chapter 13: The Endocrine System
Chapter 14: Reproductive System
Chapter 15: Urinary System

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the Medical Terminology Program the participant will be able to:
1. Analyze medical terms.
2. Correctly spell medical terms.
3. Pronounce medical terms.
4. Correctly read passages containing medical terms.

Evaluation Process

At the end of each chapter, there is a test. Participants must successfully complete the test before continuing to the next chapter. Participants that do not achieve 70% can review the chapter content and try as many times as necessary to advance and complete the course. Test questions are randomly selected from a test bank, making each test unique.

Upon successfully completing all chapters, there is a printable certificate for your records.

Course Duration

This online course is self-paced. Participants may leave the course at anytime and can resume where they left off. The duration will depend on the individual participant and their prior knowledge of the subject matter. On average, the course will take between 12 - 24 hours to complete.
